Dallas heads back to Dallas with a 2-0 series lead over the Lakers. These things can happen when the entire output of the Lakers bench (see: 12 points) is matched by the entire output of J.J. Barea (see: 12 points). Only three NBA teams have ever lost the first two games at home and come back to win a best-of-seven series. So for the Lakers, that might just be a really bad sign. Except that one of those three was the Lakers (see: 1969). So that might just be a really good sign instead.

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
The Lightning completed their sweep of the top seeded Capitals with a 5-3 win. Which means that over the last four seasons, one of the best teams in the regular season has been one of the worst in the postseason. Ovie and the Caps have won four division titles in each of those four seasons, but they've won just two playoff series. In fact, they've won just one series in the last two postseasons as the top seed in the East. Honestly, The Rundown expected a little bit more out of its seeds.

BIG TIME TIMMY TIMS
It wasn't quite a pentavirate, but a triumvirate of Tims was triumphant last night:
- Tim Lincecum had 12 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over the Mets. It's the 29th double-digit strikeout game in his career, which pushed him past Christy Mathewson for the most games like that in Giants history.
- Tim Hudson held the Brewers to just one hit as the Braves swept the doubleheader. It's the third one-hitter of his career.
- Tim Thomas had 37 saves in a 5-1 win over the Flyers. It's the second straight year that the Bruins have jumped out to a 3-0 series lead against the Flyers. Of course last year, they went on to lose four straight, and for Philly, that was like salvaging champagne from a shipwreck.

IN THE ZONE
Larry Fitzgerald plays for the Cardinals, so it's probably no surprise that he was one of 20 receivers and quarterbacks working out in Arizona yesterday. But Donovan McNabb among the quarterbacks? He doesn't play for the Cardinals, and doesn't expect to. He just lives in the area, so he got in on the action. And with highs hitting triple digits, The Rundown can only hope they're all getting in on the giant water balloon action.

It smells like the Bulls remembered how to play defense. During the regular season, they held their opponents to 43.0% shooting from the field. But during Game 1, they struggled to hold the Hawks to 51.3%. But they bounced back to win Game 2 by managing to hold the Hawks to just 33.8%. In fact, Atlanta had just one player make more than half of his shots in Game 2. That was Damien Wilkins, who went 1-for-1.

The Angels beat the Red Sox in 13 innings in a game that finished at 2:45 a.m. ET. A 2 hour and 35 minute rain delay didn't help. They play again this afternoon at 1:35 ET. Have fun waking up for that.

In Game 3 against the Red Wings, Devin Setoguchi notched a power-play goal in the first period, another one in the second period, and then the game-winner in overtime as the Sharks opened up a 3-0 series lead. That's quite a news-worthy hat trick. This one is not.

"It's not a big deal, it's not an injury."

Derek Jeter went 1-for-4 before leaving in the 8th inning of a 4-0 loss to the Tigers. Manager Joe Girardi said Jeter is now day-to-day because his hip was "grabbing at him." And how does something like that happen, exactly?

"We look forward to playing in Indianapolis and we'll stand behind that commitment."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell answered questions from Colts' season ticket-holders yesterday. They wanted to know if they'll actually be able to host the first Super Bowl that they've ever been able to host. And the league stands behind that commitment, which is great as long as it's not standing on a ladder.
